Ex StarCollector back.
Joe Giddings, ATL's PowerPop royalty returns with a new CD and his new "group"... JTG Implosion. The show was short, and still some of the best harmony I've heard live in the ATL. See more harmony action(with kick-ass guitarwork) next Saturday, same place with Wormbelly.

Here's some pics of Joe and friends:

For a powerpop junkie, it was really cool to see Joe hook up with the kick ass niche label NotLame. The same company that released both the Jellyfish and Posies boxsets this past year.

    Behind the Pop
After attempts at forcing this phenom of PowerPop down too many throats... I've learned, it's an appreciation for a tightly-squeezed representive of a sweet, complex and ever-evolving morsel of humor and pop-culture in an audible artform. Whether you create in this amazing space or simply part-take... PowerPop is more than poetry and music... it's an oddly familiar movement. If you don't get it... try to smile, then listen again.

    RANDOM LISTENING NOTES...
(computer's having a problem playing some of the tracks.. hmmm)
    Do-wop to rip-rock in a quarter mile.
Listening to the JTG CD for the first time, right now. There's a song, "Delta 88"... coincidence... my first car was a '69 Delta Rocket88... for which I wrote an upcoming song: "Rocket 69"... same car... different story... hehe... Great harmonies... I mean it. Ripping queen-seque guitars through sugarwater lunchbox lyrics... "like a battery on my tongue" -- I can happily relate!... ELO-esque magic strown through like fairy dust... Track 13, "Tore Down", is fricken complex and a sonic joy... Strings! Track 16, "All or Nothing" has subversive BJ Thomas action swingin' thru. woohoo! Quite possibly my personal fav on this CD... (Reminder to self: Hire Joe for harmony work) Bonus Track "Beatle v. 96" heavy construct wraps up the disc quite nicely.

Buy it if you're into this sparkling stew: Jellyfish, The Beatles, ELO, and a slinky Fastball-like dash of BJ Thomas. Strongest recorded harmonies I've heard in a LONG time.

After Joe completed his set, Y.O.U. (from Indiana?). Unique harmonious sound with a bit o soul. Despite the lead vox frighteningly resembling lil Master Potter, they grooved. Anyhoo, I'd rather not ramble.

    peace-
