NEW MP3: "100 Percent" (Jan03 VocalDemo)
[ DOWNLOAD and email me comments, please. ]

btw... a "vocal demo" showcases the LYRICS and VOICE, not necessarily the instruments the way a "single" does. (yes, I'm beatboxing too. hehe)

PERSONAL OVERVIEW...
This is my first vocal demo, to find out many things about myself. After the 5 hour session was over, I have confirmation that my songs are awkwardly written, but *hopefully* interesting. As Jesse at VMG charted the song, he discovered the song is written in a series of 9 measures per ummm... line? ...instead of 8 measures per line. So, the fun begins there.

DISSECT: STRAIN...
After several hours of noticing two measures were missing from the chart, Jesse plugged them in there and it came together. (This whole time I'm singing the song over and over...eventually getting strained... and that's what you'll hear.) By this time, it was difficult to do the fun little vocal "runs"(like R&B singers) I wrote for this song... instead, I just say the ever-annoying "yea! yea!"... which I despise myself. hehe

DISSECT: ENERGY/PASSION...
As the songwriter, vocalist, and human percussion on the track, it's difficult to be objective whether the energy and passion are effectively presented. In the vocal demo, I can hear the energy of the instrumentation/tempo doesn't dynamically build in the second part of the song in the way I would like it to, but you gotta admit, Jesse Deese's guitarwork is top-notch. Props to the D-Man!

Additionally, I believe my voice needs the backup of BIG guitars and BOOMING drums... but don't we all?

DISSECT: THE THIN LINE OF "APPEAL"...
After hearing this demo, a quick realization hit me... I didn't know my voice sounded like this stylistically. "Appeal" is important, if I continue with this project. I know my voice rides that ULTRA-thin line between annoying and interesting... download the song and share with me where I fall... I really don't know.

AMERICAN DELUSSION?
Like many of the American Idol entrants that really shouldn't sing... am I in that group? If I hadn't been singing for 4hours... would that make a difference? So difficult to tell.

peace-
seanrox
