Neo-Surreal Portraits?
Sealed in a dream-state... I'm considering adding portraits to the offerings of my neosurrealism site.

Extracting what is subdude and sincere.
Beyond the trivial Mall-Shop glamour. Diving mind-first into the potent allure we all possess. A carefully mind-crafted visage of everyday super reality. For the desire to capture and instill one moment... and interact with curiosity.

*NOTE*
Seems like an amazing opportunity for a broad audience to experience art first hand. Let me know what you think of this...

Wormbelly's Slithering Sideshow with Eden.
#1, I'm a music FAN, first. In knowing this, it'll make everything else easier to understand. Simply enough, I *don't* work to inflate anyone's ego, but every once in a while, an artist happens to snag me with songs and music that dive deep and swirl... at that time, I'm eager to share them with the world. Wormbelly finally came to ATL. I was there.

Eden
After wading through the two opening bands (there were moments of interest, but moments fade) ... Eden took the stage.

The night before the show, I visited Eden's site. Listened to several tracks to get an idea of their groove. Some bands are simply easier to embrace in the "live" element. Eden is one of those bands. Delicately brash, they rocked through dark tales of song.

With a cool blue groove and solid performance, I found myself appreciating Eden much more than anticipated. Greatly surprised, I'd urge anyone who enjoys progressive blues and true americana rock to catch them "live" and check out their unplugged material. Both presence and guitarwork were top-notch. Good stand-alone show, guys.

Wormbelly
Warmly welcomed by Chris, he introduced me to the band... there's a bunch of them. hehe Since first listening to their CD: "TheGuf" back in August, I was interested to see how they'd pull off the epicly noir, yet sweet powergroove tracks I'd come to enjoy on the densly sonic CD. As they weaved in and out of familiar and not as familiar tunes, it quickly became appearent that the Wormbelly live show energy was a different experience altogether.

Back to the Worm...
Rhythmically, this small army maintained the same "smoothness" the CD engaged so fiercely. A slick cadence that I've shared to others that enjoy the likes of the Posies and Jellyfish. Alternatively, Chris' vox and guitar unified and surged melody with a rage at times that gave a Pumpkin-esque thrill. Chris and Kevin ripping along each other proved certainly this live show embodied more tidalwave than wading pool. Big show...

Surprises... BOOM. KC's(?) drumwork rooted deep. For those that enjoy fricken HUGE, yet intricate drums... take a listen to the CD. I'd assume, as a percussionist, it's a joy to play. I'm not really a drum-junkie so, I pick up on the extraordinary... in the Southeast both Wormbelly and local favorites, TheGoodies stand-out with and obviousness too appearent to forgive. hehe (BTW, Patrick and Holiday from TheGoodies were in attendence.) With syncopated and slipping rhythms Todd maintained that solid bassline groove that *is* the warmth of Wormbelly.

Visual... GoGo, visual-performer/pianist lent a radical stageshow to the bittersweet melodies. Contortionist and mobile human light-source, Thought to self... we need more visual stimulation for our music... especially on the local and regional level. The "live" experience allows us all to do this... why don't we see more involving this stimulating element? hmmm

Wrap it up...
As I mentioned before, the LIVE Wormbelly experience is different than the CD experience. The CD is a delightful sonic voyage. The LIVE show is an exploding ball of visual stimulation and phonic crunch. I'd like to experience those harmonies stronger. *jab* :-D Thanks for the plugs for RSP! Chris gave me the shirt off his back. No really. Replaced it with a CJ T... enjoy bro. I'll be seeing this band again. Next time... after-party at my place. :)

For I... am a superhero.
See mine.It's like trading cards of sorts. And of course, while you're there... you can make your own.

The ability to upload your picture is there, but didn't work for me... might be the pesky firewall... dunno.

As I was growing up, really only dove into comicbook/super-hero land a few times. Kamen rider of course rocked the house Japan-style from ages 1-11. Ahhhhhhhhh V 3!!! (It's ok if you don't understand.) Although, I don't think it was ever made it to tv or film... Even Spiderman teamed up with KamenRider V3 to fight "evil".
Like hero icons?

StarWars everything enveloped a stretch in my youth... 6yrs-16ish? Good portion of my life, I'd say, was spent battling the evil empire and tearing down the dark side of the force... part of that while listening to Ozzy... oh the divine irony.

High school came, I was in the UK, and I was introduced to the badass futuristic American Hero/AntiHero: Judge Dredd. Later made into a horrible movie. To experience Dredd... read the comic novels.. Anthrax released a single in the UK (which I still have) that idolizes this badass beast of a hero, "I am the Law". B-side was "I am the Man"... one of the first playful rap-metal tracks by established bands. By the way... he teamed up with BatMan in 1991 and I'm sure Anthrax experienced an increase in web traffic this past year or so.

So, am I hero-less? Nah. It's all about the music.

JOINING A FANCLUB...
The line we cross when we pass from an "appreciator" of music to a "fan" of music beholds a threshold of power. Not even sure I'd know how to clarify it. I think we just "feel" it. Some wacky cosmic connection or something... possibly? Appreciate for the art created? Lyrics? Unique sound?

Although I'm not fanatical about many bands at any given time. There have been times when I simply couldn't "get enough"... these times come and go... here's my INcomplete list. hehe

    Like soggy failure of the success lithmus test, sitting at the end of the bar. Three bloody maries at four-fifty a pop. Nevermind the seven-fifty in my front pocket... the tab wouldn't be paid, and for the unknowing barkeep, it simply wouldn't be important.

    On the news an armed driver of a mid 1970s model, powder blue Olds was on vying for pole position on the Eisenhower Interstate system encircling the city. All I could think was how bloated and mis-shapen those vehicles were... and who was the guy in charge of design that week?

    News choppers allowing consumers of cable television a real-life bird's eye drama unfold. I requested the bartender to turn down the volume of the impromtu reality show when the helicopter banter from the television grew seemlingly louder.

    Police and news helicopters encircled the block, casting a heroically large shadow and a larger unearthing sound. Just as the electronic whine and warble of police cars became audible, all went silent for me.

    Still propped on my barstool, nearest the door, I watched in virtual silence as I faced the impending grill and tires of the vehicle in question jump the curb outside and anihilate the handcrafted wood and glass entryway. Splinters and shards. Hot, heavy metal against my skin...

    Ex StarCollector back.
    Joe Giddings, ATL's PowerPop royalty returns with a new CD and his new "group"... JTG Implosion. The show was short, and still some of the best harmony I've heard live in the ATL. See more harmony action(with kick-ass guitarwork) next Saturday, same place with Wormbelly.

    For a powerpop junkie, it was really cool to see Joe hook up with the kick ass niche label NotLame. The same company that released both the Jellyfish and Posies boxsets this past year.

    Behind the Pop
    After attempts at forcing this phenom of PowerPop down too many throats... I've learned, it's an appreciation for a tightly-squeezed representive of a sweet, complex and ever-evolving morsel of humor and pop-culture in an audible artform. Whether you create in this amazing space or simply part-take... PowerPop is more than poetry and music... it's an oddly familiar movement. If you don't get it... try to smile, then listen again.

    RANDOM LISTENING NOTES...
    (computer's having a problem playing some of the tracks.. hmmm)
    Do-wop to rip-rock in a quarter mile.
    Listening to the JTG CD for the first time, right now. There's a song, "Delta 88"... coincidence... my first car was a '69 Delta Rocket88... for which I wrote an upcoming song: "Rocket 69"... same car... different story... hehe... Great harmonies... I mean it. Ripping queen-seque guitars through sugarwater lunchbox lyrics... "like a battery on my tongue" -- I can happily relate!... ELO-esque magic strown through like fairy dust... Track 13, "Tore Down", is fricken complex and a sonic joy... Strings! Track 16, "All or Nothing" has subversive BJ Thomas action swingin' thru. woohoo! Quite possibly my personal fav on this CD... (Reminder to self: Hire Joe for harmony work) Bonus Track "Beatle v. 96" heavy construct wraps up the disc quite nicely.

    Buy it if you're into this sparkling stew: Jellyfish, The Beatles, ELO, and a slinky Fastball-like dash of BJ Thomas. Strongest recorded harmonies I've heard in a LONG time.

    After Joe completed his set, Y.O.U. (from Indiana?). Unique harmonious sound with a bit o soul. Despite the lead vox frighteningly resembling lil Master Potter, they grooved. Anyhoo, I'd rather not ramble.

    Yes, I'm not dead.
    Been focused 100% on continuing to get my portfolio and resume distributed properly. Appears this is an uphill battle, yet I simply won't allow the holidays to interfere with my motives.

    HomeDepot and I danced the other night. Began working on the second non-digital piece for the Neosurrealism project. Need plaster and flour...

    Email works, but I'm not dead.
