NEW MP3: "100 Percent" (Jan03 VocalDemo) [ DOWNLOAD and email me comments, please. ] btw... a "vocal demo" showcases the LYRICS and VOICE, not necessarily the instruments the way a "single" does. (yes, I'm beatboxing too. hehe) PERSONAL OVERVIEW... This is my first vocal demo, to find out many things about myself. After the 5 hour session was over, I have confirmation that my songs are awkwardly written, but *hopefully* interesting. As Jesse at VMG charted the song, he discovered the song is written in a series of 9 measures per ummm... line? ...instead of 8 measures per line. So, the fun begins there. DISSECT: STRAIN... After several hours of noticing two measures were missing from the chart, Jesse plugged them in there and it came together. (This whole time I'm singing the song over and over...eventually getting strained... and that's what you'll hear.) By this time, it was difficult to do the fun little vocal "runs"(like R&B singers) I wrote for this song... instead, I just say the ever-annoying "yea! yea!"... which I despise myself. hehe DISSECT: ENERGY/PASSION... As the songwriter, vocalist, and human percussion on the track, it's difficult to be objective whether the energy and passion are effectively presented. In the vocal demo, I can hear the energy of the instrumentation/tempo doesn't dynamically build in the second part of the song in the way I would like it to, but you gotta admit, Jesse Deese's guitarwork is top-notch. Props to the D-Man! Additionally, I believe my voice needs the backup of BIG guitars and BOOMING drums... but don't we all? DISSECT: THE THIN LINE OF "APPEAL"... After hearing this demo, a quick realization hit me... I didn't know my voice sounded like this stylistically. "Appeal" is important, if I continue with this project. I know my voice rides that ULTRA-thin line between annoying and interesting... download the song and share with me where I fall... I really don't know. AMERICAN DELUSSION? Like many of the American Idol entrants that really shouldn't sing... am I in that group? If I hadn't been singing for 4hours... would that make a difference? So difficult to tell. peace- seanrox |
SurrealPortraits will launch next week.
Aighty... I'm in the middle of like 7 projects... which is a good thing... so everything is getting done, just not at the rate I'd like. Despite all of this, I'm launching the initial marketing for "SurrealPortrait" offering. Push to the gyms and midtown. Track: 100% Secured... I'll be recording the demo for the new track: "100%" at VMG Studio. The plan is... it'll be recorded dual acoustic with congas and kettle drums. I believe it's an "ok" rock song, but a really cool country song... who knows... I plan on pushing it thru to this year's Georgia Music Industry Association Country Songwriting Competition, possibly others this spring. and.... we'll see if we can entertain this girl to the right to sing some back-up. Show tonight... I'll be hitting Smith's Ole Bar tonight to check out Potter's new band: PUSH... Alice-n-ChainsyToolRock. peace- seanrox |

Void Position Drone on clarity. Follow each question with a handful of delectible options, yet follow through with not one. Feel everything, act upon all, complete not one. The position is void. A man trapped in the television, felt each line delivered. Understood every subplot and position. Wise moments arise in moments of confusion and irony. Split-second memories can't tell the time of day or of the week... even the date seems unclear. Beyond these lucid events a travelled heart yearns to be loved... and it is indeed. peace- seanrox |

Alastor Rips. AlastorWeb.com After seemlingly years and years of not ever making it to an Alastor show, I did... and brought along the camera to snap a few shots... instead of posting pics, I went ahead and made a 1280x1042 Desktop Collage. Just click the image or the link to get it. RIght-click ... you know the drill.
As most live music venues have been lately, The Cotton Club was scarcely populated. Elizabeth and the band knocked out solid tunes with blasts of energy. It's refreshing to see a strong female lead in command with her voracity. I'd like to see Alastor deeply-seated in the grrrrrrrrrrl movement that's become so prevalent in recent years... they'd really enjoy the music. Also, with a proper crowd, I believe Alastor possesses the sonic power to truly electrify an audience. Good job Alastor... Wake up ATL, these people dying to entertain you. PROMOTING EVENTS, not bands Since my journal aren't reviews, but my thoughts, I'll meander all I want... People are fickle and enjoy the extraordinary. We like special sales in the stores, and amazing television events. Venues, bands and promoters are responsible for creating such a buzz. There is no "regular show", unless it is haphazzardly billed that way. EXAMPLE #1... DARKHORSE, OCTOBER (it'll never be "10High" to me, sorry) Recently, The DarkHorse in the Highlands, had a glam-metal tribute with local bands dressed up like historial 80s Glambands... MotelyCrue, WhiteSnake, and GnR. They saw the biggest attendence in recent history that night. Why? The venue-regulars could sink their teeth into the theme easily. Passers-by could anticipated excitement. Each band brought with them, their own hardcore fans... and niche 80sMetal fans revered event. EXAMPLE #2... DickDelicious Whenever DickDelicious plays, there's a crowd. Why? Stageshow? Brash novelty of the music? Capturing the regulars attention with something a little over the top entertainment? What matters is that they generate enough buzz about the show to capture an audience. MOVING AHEAD. Maybe there are too many live rock venues in ATL splitting the live-rock audience into too many factions? Maybe the venues are simply too large for the band's following on any given evening? Maybe the bill itself doesn't stand on it's own? Or should bands (god forbid) play in more venues in the 'burbs? I don't claim to have the answers, only valid questions to discuss. I'm friends with people in bands that want to tour down to ATL and want help in booking them. I'm concerned that people won't come, no matter how "great" I believe the band may be. Several ideas are slamming my head right now. Possibly I'll write blog them here in the coming week... or keep them selfishly to myself. hehe. If I ever do decide to book bands or events in the future. The event, the bill, the buzz should all be in place. If one is missing, the gamble is far too high. peace- seanrox |

Mulletman and BFJ penning a new track! :: press release. Saturday, January 11th 2003 @ 4.50pm Yes, as of a few minutes ago, the RedneckROcker himself, slayer of cinderblock city, and BFJ king of really, really loud acoustic guitar have announced they have begun writing, in perfect penmanship -- mind you, the new upcoming single release and surely a number one hit across the world: "Heroin and Jesus". A passionate love song and pure reverence to the finest things in life, "Heroin and Jesus" will surely span cross-over audiences from Classic Rock to Gospel and Country and to the depths of cynical College post-modern-retro-esque-lo-fi-mod-roots sensibility. LYRICAL EXCERPT: "like line of fire burnin' up my arm -- and a splash of the lord that keeps me calm...." Stayed tuned to Mullet Man dot dom to see what these two giants of the industry bestow upon us mere mortals. peace- seanrox |

QUICKIE Readying for an interview. Nostradamus Action... Had a dream last night. Britain is in possible danger in the coming month. Dunno why. No images, just the words spoken. 38 Kinda funny, actually. I gave a burned CD of the MulletMan songs to the lead singer of 38Special last night. Have no idea if he'll listen to it, but since there are references to them in the track "Redneck Rock Tonight", I thought he might enjoy it. What the hell! :) Several of them were in the studio with Alan Yates. **ADDED LATER** As anticipated. Over-qualified. Move on.... no stragglers. peace- seanrox |

YAPPY HERFNUD. FIG 1
On behalf of this small asian child with a party hat and gentle smile, illustrated in Figure 1, I'd like to wish KK a happy birthday and a happy nude colony. *ADDED LATER* Logo, bcard, book a band, feed a fire, let it weep, upon a tree, down for a count along the stoop. I sit with busy mind and motionless arms. It's January. peace- seanrox |

ENOUGH WITH THE PORTRAIT STUFF!!! mmmm... no. I'm excited about seeing if there's a market for such portrait packages as my "SurrealPortraits". Last night I took a great set of photographs of my aunt, and here's one of them:
Sweet, huh? Pull allure and instill curiosity. Hopefully I'll get a few more shoots in before adding it the neosurrealism site and marketing via flyers in specific 'hoods. Feedback appreciated, as always peace- seanrox |

Yes, the sites have been down. If you're reading this, the site is back up. Have had some issues with my host contacting me back to tell me about the status of the site. Email began working again the other day, but the web host/sites themselves continue to be down. After nearly two years, I'm disappointed in Fripple.com, my host. I'm venting. I'll probably end up moving all the hosting from this service to another company. RIght now, I can't tell you how at a loss I am... RESUME/PORTFOLIO. Seeing as though I'm in between contracts, I need to show my portfolio to some prospective clients and employers. Can't do that. PUSH ART. Was hoping to launch my new neosurrealism portraits campaign this month. Can't do that. And quite a few other items... in fact... I can't even download my site to upload to a different host!!! How much money has it cost me? I'll never know. Call me Fripple. peacely venting- seanrox |
