Connectivity is Back! It's a Miracle.

I'M DEAD.
So... I awake Saturday morning to work on the many projects I'm amidst, but my broadband is dead. I run thru the sequence of turning everything involved with my computer network "off", then, one by one, back "on". The modem simply doesn't connect to the outside world. Drats!

After two hours of getting hung-up on by Comcast during our troubleshooting, I'm given an appointment for a technician to come and figure it out. The earliest appointment is the following Thursday. Really!!!

MIRACLE.
Well, 36 hours since my connection to the world of information was cut... I'm online. Same everything as yesterday. But, everything's good. *shrug*?

I thank whichever element in the universe allowed for this... (for our illustration... thank you oxygen!) I *will* keep my appointment for Thursday... maybe they'll be able to assess "why" all this happened. My blind suspect is water. I don't know why... I'm just glad to be part of this world community again. *tippity type*

Freddy Vs. Jason ... of course it rocked.
First, understand, I have a close kinship with Freddy Krueger... The first Elm Street donned the screen during my Junior High years, then, a blast of Dokken-centric horror and bombastic humor in the third installment, "Dream Warriors". Due to this juncture of pubesence and soundtrack... "Nightmare on Elm Street 3" continues to be classic of classics for me.

10 reasons why "Freddy Vs. Jason" Rocked.

  1. Rich backstory to pull from... x2
  2. Use of sound... you *know* whether it's Freddy or Jason's scene. Those sound effects and music are engrained in our Pop-culture senses.
  3. Lots of boobs.
  4. Hot blonde (Monica Keena?) from "Undeclared" is in it. She appears to have gotten a boob job... which is weird because I thought the boobs looked fine.
  5. Twisting Plot-line... Freddy works thru Jason and against him... the poor 'tard.
  6. Did I mention boobs?
  7. Sleep or awake... the kids are vulnerable from every aspect.
  8. Ravers are killed.
  9. Cornfield fire scene.
  10. Wet Boobs.

... and Drive-ins rock.

Your Cultural Cross-Over is now Televised... Eminem and John Cougar

Black Entertainment Network... finally dispells racism.
About 1am last night, I was flippin thru the channels... at the top end of the cable spectrum, and briefly landed on BET. I smiled at the fact that Black Entertainment Network was airing an Eminem video.

I suppose this proves my point, that "Black" entertainment is subjective.... that is.. is it "FOR" or "BY" blacks? Either way, felt rectified to see that race barrier duely broken. Let's leave racism to the radicals... there's no room for it in entertainment.

Country Music Television... finally rockin'.
Four more clicks up the cable spectrum, CMT's running their late-night video fest. Featuring.... John Cougar! Well, I know he dropped that moniker, but hell! He's rock, baby. "Country" music has been slowing waking the past 10 years to accept that their market loves solid Americana Rock. I applaud CMT for folding rock music that has fell out of place with pop and alt-rock media outlets into their own.

Possibly in the future, CMT will share those barely-known, guitar-centric gems of Americana such as: Angie Aparo, Brother Cane's Damon Johnson... and for that matter... how about the fiercely-growing and emerging Rockabilly scene, who are as far away from ClearChannel programming as possible. CMT, are you ready to become AMERICA'S music channel?

That's all.

Cradle left Undone.
If your blood won't boil, no calf with stand in the way. No whispering match to win. No ruby ridge to collapse. Vigor of an off-beat cop, one wishes. Top the cocktail with a spatter of what matters, on green slide salad, bone up to what becomes you... the road rash, it hurts the mouse.

3 East Coast Bands that should have a management deal...

Since I'm spouting off about regional music this week, might as well Google-promote a few artists on the East Coast...

  • The Goodies... ATL/NC. Quite possibly the most dramatically creative and beloved of SouthEast bands. Snake Oil Rock meets 1930s burgois New Orleans.

  • Wormbelly... SC. Powerpop noir... a harmonious blend of twin guitars, harmonies, dynamic grooves, and stageshow oddities.

  • Insidious Rays... PA. Suburban punk composers... epic sonic journies through cleverly written and amazingly arranged music. Rock anthems, whack country, and a tight, tight sound.

Record deals are for wimps. :) These guys need a management deal with a company with the balls to escort them to willing fans around the world.

  • Where Art and Business Collide... understanding the honesty of Constructive Criticism.

It is tough working in an industry that incorporates creating "performance art" for business. Whether it's acting, dance, script writing, video producing, and especially: writing and performing music, we, as artists, have the responsibility to deliver a product that entertains and/or conveys a message for our audience.

"Convey a message? It's this my art, man! They should love me!"
Absolutely. Art is your unique expression. How do you artistically roll your uniqueness into something more than tolerable? What about your art performance is so fantastic and infectious, that people should miss "Must-See TV"?

Since I'm in a "music" frame o' mind, let's ponder 5 questions from a regional performing artist's perspective.
    1. The Mobilization. Do you have 1,000 close friends that you can mobilize each month in every city you play? If so, stop reading. This article is not for you.
    2. The Art. Do you know why your fans like you? If yes, do that more. If not, why?
    3. The Performance. Do your fans react to your hooks/lyrics/showmanship during your performance? Why/Why not?
    4. The Mood. How do you want your audience to feel after your show? How does this affect your performance?
    5. The Ugly Comparison. Who is your favorite performer? How do you differ from them?
    Assess Yourself.
If you are comfortable with your answers to these questions. Congrats! You've found a level of success with your "performance" that you can handle. Change nothing. But! For those that wish to grow in their art with a larger audience... accept criticism, and more importantly... learn to grow.

    Last Words
    BUSINESS.
At the end of the day, the business is about posessing the integrity and popularity to mobilize a market to do *something*.

    ART.
Grow your expression to be something your audience will enjoy more than their 3rd favorite television show at home, or different band for that matter.

    AS A FAN.
Touch me. Thrill me. Show me something new... I'm ADD.

    ... and I love a great show.
