The Change of 1 : Potential

In the face of any situation,
We're only 1 idea from changing directions.

1 decision made by many at once.
1 leader on a new pioneering path,
Away from Peter's Principle with a prayer...
on the path, to Potential.

We are certainly 1.

VIDEO: Obama's Closing Argument

I believe I was sitting facing my brand new PC connecting to a local BBS in Cocoa Beach, Florida... as any good Republican Air Force geek... reading via an early newsgroup about this guy at Harvard was the first black President of the Harvard Law Review. I wouldn't have made much of it, until I read his name upon the screen:

Barack Obama

At one year before the Web was born, I thought... sheesh, it's gonna be tough with that name. I forgot about the guy until he spoke at the 2004 Democratic Convention, twelve years later. Not only did I remember his name, now there was a face and a speech... and a vision.

Today, 6 days before the election day, after the many months of petty attacks by petty partisans, Barack Obama is poised. He has one last message before we find ourselves before the ballot. The story he captured and remembered was ours. He simply hopes to be "The Enabler"...

27 minutes later, sounds like the guy might just be a little good for us all?

VIDEO: "The Last Lecture" is Brillance.

Being the video clip junkie I am, I've seen some fantastic lectures by some of the most brilliant professors, thinkers and artists. Today, "Abe" from the new Columbus, Georgia social network, IntownColumbus.com shared the video below.

Sit back and watch one hour and 16 minutes of Randy Pausch, professor at Carnegie Mellon University give his last lecture 6 months before his anticipated passing. It may just inspire you...

Innovation is built upon the definition of new ideals.

So, if innovation is built upon the definition of new ideals, I suppose the key tool is effective communication. Without effective communication, no one will ever hear the good news.

To Understand and Cope with a Growth Mind-Set

Quite often, Autumn and I discuss how we hope the Boy will "become" in his own life. From the very beginning, she hoped for him to simply "understand" the world around him. I thought this a gracious prayer and concur. What a great gift -- to understand.

I hope the Boy learns to cope. We all developed coping skills through out our lives. Some learned and others discovered. At an early age, through karate, Boy Scouts and studying the NASA space missions I first learned to open your mind to possibilities. Through skateboarding, I applied this "growth mind-set", and I discovered it made me a better thinker and problem-solver.

The psychology of "Born-Again Christianity" (which I share) is built upon the same premise: The epiphany that life circumstances can indeed change, evolve and grow once you're in control of your own destiny.

Here's "Unboxed", an article from the NYTimes that inspired this post.
Is it possible to shift from a fixed mind-set to a growth mind-set?

Absolutely, according to Ms. Dweck. But, “it’s not easy to just let go of something that has felt like your self for many years,” she writes. Still, she says, “nothing is better than seeing people find their way to things they value.”

So, I suspect, it is better to instill these values in someone as they develop rather than expect someone to come to this specific conclusion on their own. I suppose we'll just need to teach these lessons through living them... as a family.

Twice the Zing

Drip, espresso, and on-ice.
Sometimes twice, we like the zing.
Never boring, morning mysteries
Unfold, behold.
Most every time, we'll be.

Ancient Personal Wisdom

Somehow, I found myself in a Google search for myself, and dropped in on my own blog entry from 6 years ago -- and I was enlightened to find some good advice I shared with myself near the end of a troubled period...

It's not about knowing when to stop loving. It's about knowing when to change your course.

With a smile, looking back I can identify the time of this "ancient blog" as the momentary kernal of the mind-set that opened doors to the path of possibilities that led to my life's love today.

How I love them both.

Walt's Inspiration Machine

In the West, the economy is built on Brand.

Beginning at the King Ranch in South Texas, thru Chisolm Trail fire-irons, near mountain-side mine intials and as San Francisco 's docks first filled with ornate artwork painted on wooden crates, America is built upon symbols. Those strong symbols, no matter the faith or industry, whom maintain integrity are those symbols that endure.

How many have done more to create lasting Brand Integrity than Walt Disney? Walt left us decades ago, and yet, even today his lasting Brand Culture continues to inspire new generations to innovate and elaborate his core mission...

Sometimes, I think Walt was creating an Imagination Machine, in the form of mouse ears.

SoZen Formula for Innovation

Education and Enterprise equally power Innovation double-fold, but Inspiration fuels it all.

Inspiration = Ed + Ep =Innovation2

Or my math and science lessons might've worn thin.

Many people watch things go.

Others make the things go better.

VIDEO: Yes, We Can.

As a military family, as a Boy-and-eventually-an Eagle Scout, as an Airman in the United States Air Force, and someone who saw the impossible happen before my eyes while working with both NASA and the dot-com boom, NOBODY has said the "right words" to honestly inspire Americans in more than a generation.

To all those in our lives that tell us we "can't do something" -- Yes We Can.

Anything less is politics as usual.
